The Challenge:
The Norman Lindsay Gallery, a heritage-listed property and cultural landmark in the Blue Mountains, required urgent internal painting ahead of a high-profile event: the filming of the Antiques Roadshow. The project came with a unique set of challenges:
- Tight Timeline: All work needed to be completed within a narrow window to ensure the gallery was pristine and camera-ready before filming commenced.
- Sensitive Environment: The interior houses invaluable original artworks, antique furniture, and delicate heritage surfaces that demanded the highest level of care.
- Zero Disruption: As a working gallery, the project had to be completed without disrupting normal operations or compromising the safety and integrity of any of the gallery’s treasured pieces.
The Solution:
Our team designed a carefully coordinated painting plan that balanced efficiency with meticulous attention to detail:
- Precision Preparation: Given the historical significance and value of the items housed within the gallery, extreme care was taken during preparation. While no artworks or display pieces were handled or covered by our team, we meticulously planned our approach to ensure all painting work was carried out without risk to any part of the collection. Protective barriers, controlled work zones, and strict adherence to gallery protocols ensured a safe, dust-free environment throughout the project.
- Specialised Painting Techniques: We used low-odour, fast-drying premium paints to reduce environmental impact and allow for quicker turnaround without sacrificing quality.
- Collaborative Scheduling: We worked closely with gallery staff to phase the job, ensuring minimal interference with daily operations and completing each room sequentially for a smooth transition.
The Outcome:
The project was completed on time and to museum-grade standards, ready just in time for the arrival of the Antiques Roadshow production crew.
- The gallery interiors were refreshed and revitalised, with surfaces restored to a crisp, clean finish that complemented the heritage atmosphere.
- The gallery’s team was highly satisfied with the professionalism, efficiency, and respect shown for their collection and space.
